Are we too good to go down?
In 2002/3 we were certainly too good to go down........history says it differently. We did have a team full of talent, loads of it home grown, but for those about at the time it was fucking horrible when we got relegated.

Interestingly, we were 19th the corresponding weekend back in 2002/3 and the team under us was Sunderland. The other team relegated with us were West Brom.

Are we too good to get relegated this season or will we survive?

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Not at the moment we aren't as there is no team spirit or effort by the current squad of players.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Is that the same Chelsea players who were conning their own fans because they wanted the manager out. Not trying for half a season. Too arrogant to go down.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
It's a complete nonsense saying that you can't be too good to go down. Chelsea last season were bottom half last season for some time...did even one person think they would go down? And why do you think that was ?? Take your time.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Last season was good, but I found it over rated. There was great moments but the last few weeks were dreadful performances. With the move coming, this season shite was highly predictable.
We generally have a good season followed by a poor one. It won't be a surprise to me if we go down, somethings just never change regardless of a new rented athletics stadium.

No team are too good to go down, if you do your shit.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
At any other club, having come off of a season like last season, having players like payet and lanzini to build around and some excellent young players besides, and having spent the money we spent, we should not even be having this conversation.

But this is West Ham, where we seemingly can turn an embarrassment of riches into just plain embarrassing overnight. It just seems that every time we think we have turned a corner we suddenly revert to form. I don't think we'll go down this season as there are three worse teams, but at the same time, given our pedigree of being a classsic yoyo club it it also would not shock me.

I'd go down on a lot to be fair.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Is this still going on?

No team is "too good" to go down! If you go down, you are not good enough to stay up! The END.

The real pertinent points. In ALL competitions, since April 2016, we have been in "relegation form". Of the last 20 Prem games, we have won only 6. That's terrible.

On the upside, the table is tight, as we all know.

We have some good individual players. Our "team" is not good. And if nothing changes drastically, in terms of RESULTS, we will be relegated.

17 points at Christmas would be joint 16th/17th last season - both Newcastle and Norwich had that points tally and both were eventually relegated.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Regardless of the next 'difficult' games, even if we lose the lot, we surely in the name of all things feasable, cannot fail to beat Burnley and Hull at home.

That's 17 points and clear of the bottom 3 in the New Year.

Re: Are we too good to go down?

It is stating the obvious as if you finish in the bottom 3 then you obviously wasn't too good to go down. But how many good sides have gone down? Very very few...I remember not that long ago when Tottenham were bottom of the league pnce around October time, not one person thought they would go down and they never, because they were too good to go down. We won't go down either, for the same reason.

Should be stating the obvious...obviously!

Re: Are we too good to go down?
There is no such thing as too good to get relegated. If your one of three teams who have performed the worse then you deserve to go down. I know its stating the office but I really believe that. No-one has a divine right to stay in the premier league. Lets hope that come May we don't go down. January is key for us.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
we will get relegated as the current team does not have the bollocks or fortitude to rise to the fight. This is not a team that will dig in and grind out results.
Great when everything was going our way last season, now its not it shows the real character of the team and when i say team that extends to the manager and coaching staff.
Without a good team, you dont have a good business no matter what the size of your empty multi purpose event stadium

Re: Are we too good to go down?
The simple way to answer this is will we improve or carry on playing like this? I firmly believe it will be the former as I don't think a side with as much talent as ours will play shit for 9 months. Also, Sakho and Carroll will make a difference and as Sven pointed out we have already played the hardest away games.

The answer to the OP's question is YES, we are too good to go down and won't go down. Still gonna be a shit season though.

Of course we're not.
History tells you that.

Bur we won't this season
..only for the fact there are so many sides that are more shit than our shower

Re: Are we too good to go down?
If we can swap a couple of our surplus wingers for one half-decent forward, that would go some way to addressing the problems.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
After the success of last season, and the start of this one most are disappointed and pissed off.
And its looking a bit bleak a the moment, and most probably even bleaker after Arsenal- Man U games.
But we can turn this around, getting players fit and keep them fit, buy in a couple of players
When the window opens, it will not be easy but we need to get behind the team and the manager.
Lets face it we do not have to many options, bringing in a new manager with the same players
Might also go pear shape, 2 or 3 wins and we will be in the middle of the pack with a good chance
to progress up the table, we will survive.
